Book Discussion: "Code Talker" at Galesburg Public Library

Celebrate the love of reading and learning history with our non-fiction companion novel to The Big Read of Love Medicine. Learn about the only unbroken military code in modern warfare and how the Navajo Code Talkers helped to ensure victory for the U.S. in “Code Talker: The First and Only Memoir by One of the Original Navajo Code Talkers of WWII” by Chester Nez and Judith Schiess Avila. Copies of the book will be available at the Check-Out Desk one month in advance. A documentary about the Navajo Code Talkers will be shown after the discussion.

Native American Flute Playing

Join the Children’s Room in the Sanderson Room to celebrate Native American music and storytelling with Rev. Dan Lybarger from Knoxville. Rev. Lybarger is a Cherokee flutist and storyteller who uses stories and Native American flute music to tell stories that convey the culture, language and history of the Cherokee people. The stories are often interactive involving the audience to help tell the story in a way that will create a lasting impression and learning experience. This is a free event and open to all ages.
