Pelican Sculpture Installation and OCEARCH Tours

Keep Golden Isles Beautiful celebrates nature with a community art and environmental education sculpture! Join us at 3:30 pm at Mary Ross Park for a litter cleanup where the hard plastics and aluminum will be inserted in the pelican structure during the 4 pm installation. OCEARCH, the shark tracking vessell, will conduct tours from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM for all who volunteer for this installation!

OCEARCH - Tracking the Seas

OCEARCH is a recognized world leader in generating critical scientific data related to tracking (telemetry) and biological studies of keystone marine species such as great white and tiger sharks, in conjunction with conservation outreach and education at a measurable global scale. The Big Read Kick Off: A Journey Through Earthsea

"Coastal GA Reads A Wizard of Earthsea" will officially kick off during First Friday festivities in downtown Brunswick. Beginning with a “Dragons and Other Fantastical Creatures” parade, patrons are encouraged to dress as their favorite fantasy characters and travel through the downtown area where they will meet a wizard and search for the true names of participating locations to be entered into the library’s new Beanstack program for a chance to win great prizes. The Brunswick Library will also host a Make It and Take It Dragon Craft. Big Read exhibits at the Ritz Theatre and Brunswick Library will open, proclamations will be presented by local officials and a free screening of Dragonheart at the Ritz Theatre will take place.

With the recent storms, we are reminded that while our trees are beautiful and provide many benefits in our daily lives, they can become unsafe in certain conditions. Lyn Ford is a fourth-generation, nationally recognized storyteller in the Affrilachian tradition of joy and love. Home-Fried Tales are folktale adaptations, spooky tales and original stories rooted in Lyn’s family multicultural Affrilachian storytelling traditions.
