The Greenup County Extension Agency sponsors a visual art workshop. Use charcoal to create a portrait of your pet or a favorite dog from The Call of the Wild by Jack London. Works from the winners will be displayed at Big Read events throughout the month.

Dr. Jeanne Campbell Reesman presents the keynote speech for The Ashland Big Read. Dr. Reesman is the director of the Ph.D. in English program and Professor of English at the University of San Antonio. Her critical biography, Jack London's Racial Lives, was the first full study of the role of race in his life and writings. She is also the author of Jack London: A Study of the Short Fiction and Jack London. Reesman is also the author of the reference book Companion to Jack London.
