Traditional Mexican Clothing Exhibit

Enjoy an exhibit of traditional clothing from the different regions of Mexico illustrated through Ballet Folklorico costumes on display in the San Leandro Main Library atrium. The clothing can be seen during regular library operating hours. Visit www.sanleandrolibrary.org for hours.

Learn about the traditional dress of the various regions of Mexico as evidenced in Mexican dance. Carlos Moreno Jr. of local Ballet Folklorico Mexicano will narrate the program and give information about the exhibit and the dress worn in the show.

Writing Workshop for Teens with Author Malin Alegria

Grades 6-12 Becoming Your Dream: how to write a novel, get famous and other misadventures in this journey called life. So you have this great idea. Maybe you even wrote it down. Your mom loves it. But how do you make your writing dreams come true? In this workshop young adult author Malín will share her journey in publishing. Participants will get tools for devising a road map to success, get to ask questions and do some writing. This event is for teens in grades 6-12. Family Fun Night - Mexican Music and Dance with Cascade de Flores

Join us at the Main Library for a family fun night where Jorge and Arwen take children of all ages through the world of Mexican fold music, which explodes with rhyme, fun musical instruments and sweet characters. You may meet the donkey and its jawbone, the abuelito and the vulture, the accordion, the dance box and the little "mosquito" guitar. This program is bilingual. All ages are welcome.

Field Trip: Un Dia - Dos Museos

$20 per person - Includes transportation, museum admission, tours and art project. In the morning we will visit the Oakland Museum’s “Fertile Ground: Art and Community in California” exhibit and learn about the influence of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. After lunch we will visit The Mexican Museum in Fort Mason for a tour of art from Mexico. Lunch will be on your own in Oakland. Tickets (limit 2 per person) go on sale at 12:00 pm on February 28 at the Main Library Information Desk.
